What does it say about the seriousness of a newspaper when you feel like a dirty part-time-masturbator when reading the online version?

With the introduction of Internet, news-junkies like myself were given a tumble place without page constraints. Internet gave us news as far as the eye could see. Fresh news about everything that was happening in the world, served on a silver plate only a few mouseclicks away. So is Internet the tool that made news broadcasting perfect?

A little peek at the two largest online newspapers in Norway, VG and Dagbladet, indicates that there is still a long way to go. Or is it possible to claim that online newspapers are perfect when the key issues in the world appear to be half naked models and orgasm tips?

There is little doubt that we – the readers – are the driving force behind the escalating focus on sex in the online papers. There is always time for a little sex article before we start to focus on the the really important news. After all, a naked breast only takes a few seconds to check out. A world economy on its way down the drain can wait.

But does this exclude online papers from their responsibilities as serious news providers? Absolutely not! The newspaper editors are the ones who ultimately hold their finger on the publishing button. Not the reader.

So to show the world how far this has gone (at least in Norway), I have compiled some articles that have been published on the front page of Norway’s second largest online newspaper (and third largest in paper), Dagbladet, the last five months. And just as it is said; this page is definitely not “safe for work”.
